Newsletter No 4 6 March 2024
From the Principal
Hi everyone
Tonight is the P&C Annual General Meeting. All executive positions become vacant and nominations for the 2024 school year are open and voted on at the AGM. The current executive team has done a fantastic job over the past 12 months. My sincere thanks to Chris McGrath, Deanne Wooden, Tamara Connelly, Kate Slessor, and Nicole Rayner for their as the executive team in 2023. Please see information further in the newsletter for details of the AGM tonight.
We have again had to send out information to families regarding safe travel around the school particularly at peak times. Martin St is drop off and pick up only. There is no parking available in Martin St. Gladys St (under the Busway) offers short term parking and a supervised crossing point. Salisbury St and Cowley St are not suitable for parking or vehicle drop off and pick up. Your cooperation with existing measures is vital to user safety in the school area.
Outside School Hours Care has now moved into the hall. The service will set up and pack down each morning and afternoon - this system is working well. My thanks to Helping Hands and families for their patience through this period. The service will be run from the hall for the remainder of 2024 and most probably into 2025. This move is to allow for early works to be carried out in A Block as part of the Martin St development. There will be some changes to school operations with the move. I will publish these changes in the newsletter as appropriate.
Works to the new prep area will shortly commence. The area around the old cricket nets has been fenced off, so that work can be safely carried out. The new prep playground will eventually be used by our prep students when works to D Block have concluded. Staging of works has been organised to maximise available time and to minimise disruption to school operation.
Have a great week.

From the HOD-C
The Yr. 4/5 and 3/4 classes have taken on the civic responsibility of ensuring that our lunch waste is recycled and composted in 2024. Thank you to all those students and teachers, and to Mr Bryant for leading this initiative.
To assist the students in their recycling and composting efforts it would be terrific if parents and students could support the Nude Food agenda.
Nude Food is food without excess packaging. Usually, this means food that is not processed, often making it a healthier and more environmentally friendly option. Nude Food reduces the amount of 'stuff' that needs to go in bins to be sent to landfill. Durable, reusable containers are a great way to bring food, as they may last from pre-school through to high school and beyond, providing long term cost savings and environmental benefits.
The Nude Food website offers a video with ‘Lunchbox tips from a parent’ to help you prepare your child/ren’s lunches.

We encourage students to follow the tips on the poster below and thank you for joining us in this initiative to have healthier lunchboxes and a cleaner environment.

Student Resource Scheme
Parents will have received the Student Resource Scheme form. These have only be sent home to parents who did not return the form in 2023. These forms must be returned to the office.
Buranda State School operates a Student Resource Scheme for all year levels. This offers parents a convenient and cost-effective way to provide resources for their students through reduced prices from bulk purchasing. The scheme DOES NOT INCLUDE the cost of personal stationery or off-campus activities such as sport, excursions, camps, etc.
The Student Resource Scheme is voluntary. Most families choose to join because of its convenience and the financial benefits of participation. The charges detailed below are the costs to parents for each year level in 2024. The Student Resource Scheme is a yearly charge and may differ from year to year.

Resource Requirement lists can be found here Student Resource Scheme (eq.edu.au).
Students have been issued with resources for 2024. Students leaving the scheme during the year may be entitled to a pro-rata refund of fees paid, but only after fees have been paid in full.
Invoices will be raised for payment of your student fees, only when forms have been returned. Payment of the 2024 Student Resource Scheme invoice is payable and due in the year it was invoiced. Education Queensland’s preferred payment method is BPOINT.
Families who do not wish to participate in the SRS (Student Resource Scheme) can opt out by returning the signed participation form indicating their preference. Parents who opt out of the scheme will be responsible for purchasing resources from the resource lists. Students may be charged and invoiced to cover supplied resources such as printing reference materials or materials required for instruction. Access to online software resources covered by the resource scheme may be restricted.
Forms are valid for the duration of your student's enrolment or until parents opt out of the programme.
If you have any queries about the Student Resource Scheme, please email Doreen Holland at bsm@burandass.eq.edu.au.
