Newsletter No 2 7 February 2024
From the Principal
Hi everyone
Thank you for your attendance at the parent information sessions last night. These sessions provide a great opportunity for families to understand the expectations and procedures in children’s classes from the beginning of the school year. As partners in education, being on the same page is so important. My thanks to our staff for their continued commitment to the parent information sessions.
There is a general P&C meeting in the library at 6:15pm tonight. I will provide an update on our building program. I will also discuss playing with sticks during play time - children like to make structures etc. with sticks and bark but as you can imagine there is always a risk that sticks can be used dangerously or inappropriately by some students. As such, children will not be permitted to play with sticks at lunch time.
Our administration will send home a student details card shortly. This shows information we currently have on file for your child/ren, the cards can be updated to provide the most up to date family contact details and medical details for your child/ren. It is vital that we have accurate information for all students.
If your child has a medical condition that requires staff to administer medication, parents must complete a form from the office. These forms are updated every year.
Please note, school staff will only administer medication that:
- has been prescribed by a qualified health practitioner - e.g. doctor, dentist
- is in its original container
- has an attached pharmacy label
We are unable to administer medication that you can buy over the counter such as paracetamol, eye drops, cough syrup, unless it has been prescribed by your child's qualified health practitioner and is clearly labelled, as above.
Please ensure your child’s medication has not expired before handing it in to the office. Parents are responsible for ensuring all medical information and medication is up to date.
Your children may have mentioned that the projector in the hall is not currently working (most probably damaged during storms over the break). We will continue to hold assemblies the old-fashioned way until the projector is replaced.
A reminder that next Tuesday 13 February there will be a presentation of badges to seniors, as well as School Leaders and House Captains. All year 6 parents are invited to attend the assembly commencing at 2:30pm sharp.
Parent parking is available in Gladys St (under the busway). Please be reminded that parents are not to park in the staff carparks (Cowley or Martin St).
Dogs are not permitted on school grounds without prior approval of the principal. Please keep dogs well away from entrances (if you are tying them off to collect your children). Small children can be frightened of dogs.
Finally, the prep waiting list for 2025 is now open on our website.
Have a great week.

From the HOD-C
Tuesday February 6 was Safer Internet Day which is a global initiative to raise awareness of online safety issues.
The eSafety Commissioner leads the initiative in Australia. They educate people about online safety risks, like online abuse, how to be safe online and where to go for help.
This Safer Internet Day the eSafety Commissioner is encouraging us all to take three simple actions when approaching online safety: Connect. Reflect. Protect.
Connect safely by keeping apps and devices secure and reviewing your privacy settings regularly.
Reflect on how your actions online may affect others or your safety.
Protect yourself and others by visiting eSafety.gov.au to find out how to stay safe online and report online abuse.
By doing these things and sharing the Connect. Reflect. Protect message, we can work towards making every day a Safer Internet Day.
In particular, I would like to highlight for parents and carers that the eSafety Commissioner’s website has a tab just for you. Under the Parents tab the eSafety Commissioner addresses many of the concerns parents have about their child/ren operating in an online environment, including downloadable resources and advice about how to activate parental controls on devices.
I would encourage you to look at the eSafety Commissioner’s website and begin or continue your safer internet journey.

From the Music Room
I am pleased to share the videos from the 2023 end of year music concert. These have been edited to respect student privacy and are accessible through the Padlet link below using the password "music". I apologise for the lack of flair in my editing work, but student privacy and protection are always the top priority.
My thanks to the teachers who volunteered to film last year and for all the family members who came along to support these young musicians. If you have difficulties accessing this content you can contact me by email at ctafr0@eq.edu.au and I will endeavour to respond to you on my work days (Thursday and Friday).
Looking forward to seeing you again at the end of this year!
