From the Principal
Hi Everyone
We wish Nilssen in year 5- all the best for the coming fortnight. He travels to England today as part of a small squad of young soccer players, selected to take up training and playing opportunity through a special academy program. Well done Nilssen, we are very proud of you.

Next Friday 27 October is World Teachers’ Day- Hats off to Teachers. Thank you to all of our teaching staff for the wonderful work they do with and for our students. You make a difference to our young people and we are very grateful.
Budgie Cup Cricket for selected students is next Friday 27 October at Coorparoo Secondary College.
In other news, I’m really pleased to let you know that Kate Warhurst welcomed baby Louie last week. Louie John Warhurst was born 10/10/23. Mum and bub are home and doing well.
Mrs Zoe Curry will go on Maternity leave from the end of week 5. We wish Zoe and Bruno all the best for the arrival of their baby. Zoe will be replaced by Cam Percy in weeks 6 & 7 and by Mrs Blanchfield in weeks 8-10.

Gift Giving at the End of the Year to Department of Education Staff. including gift cards
The Department of Education does not encourage gift giving to department employees during the course of their official duties. This includes tangible (of lasting value) and intangible (of no lasting value). Department employees must consider whether the gift or benefit is appropriate to accept, and the public perception of acceptance. All employees must seek the approval of appropriate delegated education officer to retain any gift or benefit. Gifts are to be surrendered to the Leadership team until approval has been given.
We ask that parents reconsider gift giving to Buranda Staff at the end of the year. Any gift cards that can be converted into cash or after using gift card the balance is converted into cash is not allowed to be accepted by Department employees. Accumulated gift totals of $150.00 or more in one year are registered on a public register under the Right to Information Act 2009. Individual gifts are valued at fair market value, accumulated gifts are valued at individual fair market value as a whole.
Asbestos Removal – A Block
Asbestos removal and rectification works will be conducted in A block rooms from the 25 October until the 14 November, 2023.
Please note that there may be disruption to the Administration area and access to Administration will only be available from the stairs directly in front of admin gate. Areas under A Block will be fenced off while these works are taking place. A shipping container will be delivered car park for storage. Parking during that time will be limited.
On Saturday 28 October, the whole of Buranda State School site will be closed to visitors. There is to be no access anywhere on site, including the oval and all of the grounds. Asbestos removal will occur on this date.

END OF YEAR MUSIC CONCERT
This year we will hold an end of year music concert with all classes and the choir performing. Parents and carers are welcome to attend this event, so please save the date below!

Tuckshop is on Thursday this week
Tuckshop this week will be on Thursday 19 October (as our tuckshop convenor, Cass, is away on Friday this week).
Tuckshop has for options for first and second break. Mexican Beef or Vegetarian Mexican Beans and rice are on the menu for first break.

Day for Daniel
Day for Daniel will be recognised at Buranda on Thursday 26 October (the actual national date is Fri 27 Oct, but our school has Budgie Cup that day).
Wear a red shirt and join the safe walk through Hanlon Park (meeting at the playground at 7.45am).
A free breakfast will be provided at school after the walk by Max Chandler-Mather’s office (Max is our federal member of parliament) – all are welcome to join.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Deli on Logan Road is providing free red fruit for morning tea on the day too.

Also on Thursday 26 October, a free breakfast will be provided at school from 7.45-8.45am by Max Chandler-Mather’s office (Max is our federal member of parliament) – all students, parents and staff are welcome to join (whether or not they joined the Day for Daniel Walk).
The free breakfast is quesadillas – either cheese and salsa or cheese, salsa, spinach and egg. Gluten free wraps and vegan cheese available for anyone with dietary requirements, plus juice and fruit.
School disco
The end of year school disco will be held on Friday 1 Dec 2023 at the school hall from 5pm
Pop in your calendar!!

It's such a fun way to end the year and the kids have a ball.
