If you have received a statement with a negative amount as the total (a minus before the amount), this means that you have a student account in credit and no payment is due. Please do not pay the negative amount on your statement. Any credits will be applied to future invoices; please only pay the balance of the statement or invoice.
Payment Reminder Notices
If you have the responsibility of paying student accounts and the student account is overdue, you will start to notice that reminders for payment will begin to be emailed to you in the middle of the month. If the student account is still outstanding after statements have been sent to parents/carers, the Department recommends that reminders are emailed to parents/carers parents. These reminder notices are in addition to the monthly statements emailed to parents/carers.

Swimming - Term 4
Swimming will begin in Term 4 for all year levels. Children will need to bring their swimming togs, towel, bathing cap and optional goggles. All items should be named and stored in a waterproof bag.
Please note that swimming is a part of the curriculum and therefore all children must take part. A brief note is required if children are unable to swim due to illness.
Swimming lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday during Physical Education lessons starting in week 3 and most classes will have a second swim with the classroom teacher each week. (Teachers will advise the children of their 2nd swim time and start date).

From the Music Room
This week I am featuring our work in Year 6 classroom.
The students have learnt ukulele most of this year but this term we have started bucket drumming. I’m really looking forward to developing the class’s ensemble and rhythmic skills this term and next through this very accessible instrument. In this photo you can see the students’ following Max’s lead.
Over the last few weeks of term, students have been working on writing a composition in Rondo Form using the major scale. The structure of a basic Rondo Form is ABACA, so there is one section of music that is returned to, with contrasting sections in between. Students plan their A section and contrasting sections by writing their rhythms in stick notation, adding solfa and then converting this to the major scale notes assigned for this piece of music. They then notate the whole composition. You can see the wonderful work of one student who has nearly finished in the photos. Music notation is incredibly complex – it is a whole language in itself. I see lots of great examples of the fantastic notation skills possible with a good foundation in primary school music in the Year 6 classroom, a huge credit to the work of Ms Patton in years past.
Finally we are nearing the end of the term and classes are eagerly competing to see who will win free time in the last week of term! At this point in time the placements are as follows:
1st Place: 5H
2nd Place: 1/2S, 2/3C, 6BA
3rd Place: 5C
4th Place: Prep B
5th Place: P/1W
6th Place: 1/2B
7th Place 3/4O
8th Place: 2/3Z
9th Place: 4W

Book Week - Thank you!
Thank you to all the families who participated in Book Week this year by supporting the students to dress up, wear pink and/or donate a book to “It’s From Elsie”. It was lovely to see so many great costumes and flashes of pink. We were flooded with book donations which was a beautiful testament to the school’s love for Ms Warhurst and support for her charity.
Many thanks again,
Ms Tafra

Australian Girls Choir - Buranda School visit
On Friday in Week 10 representatives from the Australian Girls' Choir will be visiting Buranda State School to run a 30 minute workshop with girls who are interested in their programs. Permission slips will be distributed during music this week and must be returned to the office before Friday 15 September. You can read more about the AGC here: https://ausgirlschoir.com.au/
Further information from the AGC below:
- We only run the workshop with girls who have returned their permission slip or registered through our website so disruption to your classes is minimised.
- On the day, interested girls will participate in a workshop with one of our experienced tutors, involving simple singing and movement activities. The workshop is fun and inclusive and not competitive in any way. All girls are welcome to join the AGC regardless of skill or experience level.
- Following the workshop, we will send an encouraging personalised written report to the parents of each girl who participated. All girls will be offered a position in one of the training levels of the AGC.
Any questions can be directed to Ms Tafra at ctafr0@eq.edu.au

Fire Safety visit
In week 8, 1/2S, 1/2B and 1W had a special visit from the Annerley firefighters.
Students learned important fire safety tips and each had a blast using the fire truck's hose.
The fire fighters gave the students some homework:
- Learn their home address in case they need to call 000.
- Plan two ways to exit their home.
- Remember these two phrases: Get out and stay out & get down low and go go go!
