From the Principal
Winter Solstice
Many thanks to our P & C and parent volunteers for the wonderful Winter Solstice at the end of last term. It was a really successful event. My sincere thanks for the work done around the school, particularly the clean up of the trees and understory along the fence at the oval. Children are enjoying playing around the trees and it is easy to supervise too. It looks fantastic. Thank you also to Mr Bryant for his guiding hand in all activities.
Sports Day
Congratulations to Aristotle for taking out the trophy (Burge/Hinton Shield) on Sports Day. Our thanks to the year 5/6 students for assisting so well with the set up on Thursday and Friday. It was a lovely way to finish a busy term. Many thanks to Mrs Wain for her organisation on the day - and thank you also to our P & C and volunteers for the sausage sizzle and homebake too!
I am saddened to inform you that Maree Healy passed away yesterday.
Maree was our former Business Manager. Maree worked at Buranda SS from 2007 - firstly as an Administrative Officer and later as Small Schools Business Manager. Maree did a great deal to progress our school in that time.
Maree will be remembered for her wonderful contribution to Buranda State School and will be missed by many.
Our thoughts are with Maree's children Jackson and Aislinn and her family at this difficult time.

Philosothon
Congratulations to the two Buranda teams who participated in the annual Philosothon at Hillbrook College; Faustine, Archie M, Eleanor, Nina, Elsje, Sebastian R, Lenni and Fletcher.
The students participated in a community of inquiry with students from ten other schools. Students discussed:
- Memories – What is a memory? Why do we remember some things and not others?
- Lies – Are some lies more or less acceptable than others?
- Identity – What makes you who you are?
Team B won first place for expertly showcasing their philosophy skills through community of inquiry. It was a wonderful day for all who attended and we hope everyone learnt a little more about themselves, their memories and where they stand on lying!

Excursions and parent consent
Why is a consent form required if activities are part of the curriculum?
School excursions allow students to participate in incursions/excursions that can enhance their learning and development. These vary in terms of the number of students involved, duration of the planned activity, and venue/s where they are to occur. They may include both regular activities and one-off activities that occur during school hours, overnight (e.g. camps), on weekends and/or in school holidays.
To ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and others (e.g. volunteers), schools are required to proactively manage all aspects of excursions/incursions. The school’s duty of care to students extends to school excursions/incursions (including camps) that are part of students’ educational programs.
Activities conducted off the school site are likely to pose different risks to activities conducted on the school site.
As a result, the school is currently actively informing parents about these events, including potential fees, via the consent forms. We sometimes lack updated medical information because our parents lead such busy lives and this presents a chance for the school to acquire it in association with the activity as well.
Student Resource Scheme
The school will shortly email parents the consent forms to participate in the student resource scheme program, as communicated in the June newsletter item, see link: https://burandass.schoolzineplus.com/enews?nid=79
We will notify parents via email and the newsletter when further information on the student resource scheme is available. This material will be posted on our website.
For any questions in relation to the student resource scheme, please contact Doreen Holland, Business Manager on bsm@burandass.eq.edu.au.

P&C Update
Tuckshop
Tuckshop this Friday, 14 July, has sushi, sweet and savoury muffins and yoghurt pots.
Remember to place your orders on Qkr by 8pm tonight.
The tuckshop needs volunteers if it is to keep running each week. Most shifts will be helping to bag up food and serving the students at first break. It is easy work and the kids love seeing parents at the school helping. It can even be a bit of fun. Sign up for the same shift as your parent friends and enjoy a bit of time to catch up while contributing to the school or get to know other parents you may not have met before.
We don’t need a regular commitment, although that would be amazing, but if you can spare a couple of hours on any Friday morning this term or even term 4 we would really appreciate it. Spots are open for both terms. Click the link below and sign up for a shift that suits you. We will send out a reminder before your shift just in case you forget when you signed up for.
We are also open to Grandparent volunteers, but they will need to hold a valid volunteer Blue Card. Our Tuckshop Convenor, Cass Somers is more than happy to walk them through the process of getting one, it’s free, and setting them up to volunteer at the school.
We're using SignUp (the leading online SignUp and reminder tool) to organise our upcoming tuckshop volunteering shifts.
Here's how it works in 3 easy steps:
1) Click this link to see our SignUp on SignUp: https://signup.com/go/DsjgPso
2) Review the options listed and choose the spot(s) you like.
3) Sign up! It's Easy - you will NOT need to register an account or keep a password on SignUp.
Note: SignUp does not share your email address with anyone. If you prefer not to use your email address, please contact Cass Somers at tuckshop@burandasspandc.org.au
