Newsletter No 3 22 February 2023
From the Principal
Hi everyone
Yesterday our School Leaders, House Captains and Senior Leaders were presented with their badges at a special assembly. We were joined by many parents and family members. Congratulations to our School leaders, Faustine and Archie and our House Captains, Sebastian, Sophie and Anice. We look forward to working with all of our leaders through the 2023 school year.
Plans were announced by the Qld Government last Friday regarding the Gabba re-development and community consultation of plans for East Brisbane State School.
In brief, The Gabba stadium will be fully demolished and rebuilt. East Brisbane State School will not be able to continue at its current location beyond December 2025. Community consultation on several options will now begin, including relocating the school to new facilities at a nearby site.
Online submissions are now open here along with dates for community meetings.
The Department of Education will be consulting on three options:
- Relocating EBSS to new facilities at the Coorparoo Secondary College site
- Merging EBSS with Coorparoo Secondary College to become a P-12 school
- Students at EBSS to enrol at other local schools, with additional infrastructure built at those schools if needed
Initial consultation will be open until the end of Term 1 (March 31) and there will be further consultation throughout as the project progresses.

Please be reminded that children are supervised from 8.30am, children arriving before this time should be booked into Before school care. Children unable to be collected from school by 3:15pm, should be booked into Outside School Hours Care.
We have received complaints from the community regarding illegal parking around school zones. Council has been called and Council officers will be conducting patrols around the school to ensure safe parking, fines will be issued where illegal parking is observed. If you wish to collect your child from school please park in Gladys Street and walk over the bridge, there is no parking in Cowley Street, alternatively Martin Street has our Drop and Go Zone, this is supervised until 3.15pm.
Have a great week.

Student Leaders Presentation
From the HOC
Hi Everyone
The Yr 5s have taken on the civic responsibility of ensuring that our lunch waste is recycled and composted where possible. Thanks to the Yr 5 students, Yr 5 teachers, Mrs Curry, Mr Higgins and Mr Bryant for leading this initiative.
To assist them even further it would be terrific if parents and students could take up the Nude Food agenda.
Nude Food is food without excess packaging. Usually, this means food that is not processed, often making it a healthier and more environmentally friendly option. Nude Food reduces the amount of 'stuff' that needs to go in bins to be sent to landfill. Durable, reusable containers are a great way to bring food, as they may last from pre-school through to high school and beyond, providing long term cost savings and environmental benefits.
The Nude Food website offers a video with ‘Lunchbox tips from a parent’ to help you prepare your child/ren’s lunches.

We would encourage students to follow the tips on the poster below and thank you for joining us in this initiative to have healthier lunchboxes and a cleaner environment.
