Newsletter No. 32 30 November 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This is the final regular newsletter of the year. Thank you for your co-operation and flexibility throughout the year. It has been a really challenging year. I appreciate the support you have provided.
I’d like to take the opportunity to thank our entire staff for their work this year (teachers, teacher aides, administration, cleaners, support staff and our groundsman). There have been significant challenges for us this year. We have worked through them together and we will be stronger for it. I’d also like to thank our regular relief staff. We have relied heavily on them throughout 2022. We would not have made it through the year without their input and support.
There is a P&C meeting in the library at 6:15pm next Wednesday. Thank you very much to the P&C executive, who have powered on in 2022 under Chris McGrath’s leadership. We are very grateful for your continued support. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered this year through the tuckshop and school events. It has been a big year. Thank you Ludivine for taking on the uniform shop. Thanks also to Laura for her continued support of community minded projects and ideas- particularly the opening of the bridge underpass (this was a massive win for the school and community). Thanks also to the parent classroom volunteers who were able to join our classrooms again this year.
Staffing for 2023
Please see table below for class teachers.
Ms Lauren Grayson will be leaving us at the end of next week. Lauren has been our Acting Head of Department-Curriculum from the back half of 2021 and all of 2022. I have greatly appreciated her support and leadership. She also achieved a great deal in her work here with staff and students. Lauren is moving to Bardon State School as Head of Department-Curriculum in 2023. Our sincere thanks for doing a wonderful job here with us. We wish her all the best at her new school. Dr Rosie School will return to the HOD-C role here in 2023.
Our thanks to Mr Cipollone- who is leaving us next week. He will be extending his circuit at a couple of schools he currently visits. I thank Mr Cipollone for his work with our students over a number of years as our instrumental music teacher. Richard will be replaced here by Alicia Wilson.
Ms Cherie Patton is extending her leave in 2023 and will be replaced by Camilla Tafra.
Thank you to Miss White for joining us to take year 1/2K in semester 2. We wish you all the best in your teaching to come.

From the Head of Curriculum
Dear Buranda Community,
Thank-you and farewell. It has been an absolute pleasure to be part of Buranda State School’s staff, and community for the past sixteen months, sharing in the learning journeys of the beautiful students, and superb staff. Seeing Covid restrictions slowly withdrawn with parents, and the community returned to the school for Anzac Day, Winter Solstice, Fete, many assemblies, and gatherings. Highlights of my time here are so abundant I cannot name them individually, I am completely grateful to have been provided the opportunity to work with the staff, and students at Buranda.
It has been incredibly refreshing to see an administration, teaching and leadership team so focused on student learning, and wellbeing. Whilst at Buranda I have seen momentous displays of kindness, compassion, and empathy. Incredible teaching and learning displayed through the philosophy program, and a full commitment to teaching the Australian Curriculum. I’ve attended the Budgie Cup programs and seen the highs, and lows of this participation on the sporting field. The challenges we’ve faced together have been testing at times, however, the brilliant Buranda Spirit has always pulled everyone through.
I will finish at the end of the year and take up the position of Head of Department – Curriculum at Bardon State School in January 2023. Dr Rosie Scholl will return here.
‘Only the Best!’ Will continue to resonate with me throughout my education career, and I will miss everyone here. Keep up the fabulous work and I look forward to hearing many more good news stories about Buranda State School, the students and staff in the future. Thank-you so much for supporting me here, and making every work day an absolute pleasure.
All the best
Lauren Grayson - HOC

Please be mindful of students who may have food allergies. Label containers of prepared food with the list of ingredients. We would appreciate Gluten Free and Vegan food for all kids to enjoy the lunch!
For a successful lunch the tuckshop will need the help of parents to prepare platters, heat food and clean containers from 8am to after 2nd lunch. You can come for ½ hour or stay as long as you want!
