Newsletter No. 28 - 21 September 2022
From the Principal
Hi everyone,
I hope you enjoyed the end of term 3 break.
The postponed Budgie Cup is Friday 28 October week 4 – this will be soccer (no cricket this term). We will attempt to accommodate students who missed the opportunity due to year 4 camp last term. Further details will be sent out in the coming week.
You will have probably seen that the remedial drainage works in the garden was completed over the holidays, we even have chickens again. The frog ponds are full and the area is lovely once again. Children will enjoy their lessons with Mr Bryant from Friday.
There was some tree lopping that occurred through the holidays around F block.
The term 4 calendar will fill up fast- we’ll keep you informed of important updates in the next week.
Have a great week.

Student medication
1. Does your child need medication during school hours?
If your child needs to take medication at school, please provide the office staff with:
- a completed and signed Consent to administer medication form;
- the medication in its original container; and
- medical authorisation (e.g. the pharmacy label, or a letter from the doctor, or a completed and signed health action plan).
For further information, please refer to the Information for parents/carers and health practitioners.
If you have any queries, please contact the office on 3435 1222.
2. If my child has to take medication at school, how will the doctor know what paperwork the school needs?
When you next visit your child’s doctor (or other health practitioner), you could give them a copy of the Administration of medications in Queensland state schools: Information for parents/carers and health practitioners.
This document explains what advice they need to provide to help the school to safely administer medication to your child.
3. Easy medication packaging
If your child takes tablets or capsules each day, you can ask the pharmacist to pack them individually in sachets, blister packs or bubble packs.
This packaging is known as a ‘dose administration aid’ (or DAA) and has the pharmacy label instructions as part of the packaging.
When medication is packaged in a DAA it can make it easier for the school to safely store and administer it.
Please note: A pill case (e.g. a weekly medication organiser) filled by yourself is not a DAA and is not something the school is approved to use.
4. Medication safety at school
If your child requires medication at school, there are some things you can do to help.
- Only provide medication that has been medically authorised.
- Check that the medication hasn’t expired.
- Provide medication in the pharmacy packaging.
- Hand medication to the school in person.
- Collect unused medication in person.
- Provide a pill-cutter if tablets need to be halved or quartered, or arrange for the pharmacist to package the medication using a dose administration aid.
Brisbane Metro project - current traffic changes in place, Woolloongabba
Brisbane Move is working in partnership with Brisbane City Council to deliver the major infrastructure works for Brisbane Metro.
As part of the Brisbane Metro project, Buranda busway station will be upgraded and extended to improve busway operations and cater for Brisbane Metro services. Major construction works at Buranda busway station have now commenced and will continue until mid-2024. P&C Update
Welcome back from the holidays.
It is great to see the work done in the school garden over the holidays and new chooks joining the school family.
P&C meeting tonight
The monthly P&C meeting will be held tonight at 6.15pm in the school library.
After the success of the school fete last term, we are looking at new projects and initiatives to help and improve the school. We’d love to hear your ideas.
For those who can't attend in person, please join us online at this Microsoft Teams link.
First Friday Club this week
This Friday 7 October 2022 we are holding a First Friday Club in Hanlon Park after school. All parents and children are welcome, and a special invitation goes out to all volunteers for the school fete.
We’re holding a free sausage sizzle too to celebrate the successful school fete last term.
Sushi Friday will recommence next week
We will recommence Sushi Fridays next week (on Friday 14 October). You will be able to order sushi for next week on Qkr! until 8pm on Wednesday 12 October.
We need a few parents each week to help Sushi Fridays, which normally only takes 1-2 hours (as the sushi is delivered pre-made and parents simply help distribute it). Please help us by signing up to volunteer in a week that suits you at this link.
Parent volunteers are a must to keep Sushi Fridays going. It is a nice way to meet other parents and be involved in the school.
