Newsletter 22 - 20 July 2022
From the Principal
Hi everyone
Sue Chiswell, Helping Hands OSHC Coordinator, has resigned from her position over the holidays. Sue has to leave the role for health reasons. We wish Sue all the very best in the future. On behalf of the entire school community, I whole-heartedly thank Sue for the major contribution she had made to our school over many years. I have really enjoyed working with Sue, she will be greatly missed. Tara Barraza is the new coordinator of the OSHC service. Tara has been with us throughout this year and will be a great coordinator of the service.
Please complete the online School Opinion survey (see details further in the newsletter). The survey will close Friday, 12 August 2022.
Our year 5/6 students will attend the Life Ed program tomorrow, here at school. Please return permission forms and finalise payments asap.
Southside Senior Music Workshop forms are due back to the office this Friday.
Please refer to the update on COVID-19 from the newsletter last week. Please remember to have yourself or your children tested if they exhibit any cold or flu-like symptoms at home. The school will continue to contact you if your child becomes unwell at school. RATs will be provided to test children where required.
We are currently seeking a part-time temporary cleaner for 22 hours per week- the hours are 2:30-6pm. Please contact the administration if you are interested in this work admin@burandass.eq.edu.au or 3435 1222.
Please look out for an email from me, reiterating the importance of bike and scooter safety.
Have a great week.

School Opinion Survey
Thank you to all of those who have already completed the Parent/Caregiver Survey. If you have not had a chance to complete the survey yet, please note that the online surveys will remain open until Friday, 12 August 2022. This is your opportunity to provide feedback about what our school does well and how we can improve.
To have your say, check your email for an invitation from the Department of Education titled School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2022.
Can’t find your invitation? If your family has more than one parent/caregiver, check that they haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder.
Diversity
The karaoke promised for this week’s assembly had to be postponed as it was felt a little more voice work was needed before the big day. Instead, the children revisited the idea of diversity with a wonderful acrostic poem found on a video by iFZD.
This week we moved from the garden to the household. The children were introduced to Mrs Austin’s family. They delved further into the concept of neurodiversity by taking a close look at the Austin Household’s brains (scary). The brains contained some similar things, with sport being a common area of interest, but they also contained differences: a blue dressing gown; complex mathematical equations; coding; knitting and more. The children found out that these differences can be positive, as in the case of which parent helps with what homework, but they can also cause some difficulty.
In the coming weeks we will continue to look into the diverse ways in which we think, learn, and relate to others. In the meantime, make the opportunity to chat with your children about the diverse brains in your household (and the voice work will continue at this end).
Remember our goal - for neurodiversity to become an expected and accepted part of Buranda’s community and culture.

P&C Update
Sushi Friday this week
This Friday (22 July) will be another Sushi Friday and you can order sushi on Qkr! until Wednesday 20 July by 8pm.
We need a few parents each week to help Sushi Fridays, which normally only takes 1-2 hours (as the sushi is delivered pre-made and parents simply help distribute it). Please help us by signing up to volunteer in a week that suits you at this link.
Helping with Sushi Fridays is a nice way to meet other parents and be involved in the school.
We are still searching for a new Tuckshop convenor, which is a paid position to organise the weekly tuckshop. We would love to find a parent looking for a few hours of work each week for this position. If you are interested, please email me for details.
