Newsletter 18 - 8 June 2022
From the Principal
Hi everyone,
It is a really busy time in term 2.
This Friday is the Budgie Cup - Touch Football at Coorparoo Secondary College for selected students in years 4-6. All schools have had limited preparation time due to the very wet spell we’ve had this term. I wish our students all the best this Friday- play hard and play fair. Students will travel via Train to Coorparoo Station-participating students need to be at school by 8:15am on Friday to change and walk to the train.
Students in prep to year 2 attended the Ditto Keep Safe Adventure Show today- children learned about essential personal safety skills.
Please find information for parents in online awareness. This booklet offers advice to support your child with having a positive and safer online experience. The internet access provided to students at school is generally very safe in that the departmental network is very carefully managed, this may not be the case with web based applications that children may access from home (via computer, tablets or phones). Please take some time to peruse the comprehensive information within this document. Later this year, we will arrange information sessions for parents to assist managing children’s safe internet usage.
Next Tuesday students in year 4/5H, 5/6C and 6BA will see the German Movie- School of Magical Animals at the Palace Barracks Cinemas.
Next Thursday 16 June- our students have an opportunity to participate in a school funded activity with the Dreamtime Games group. Dreamtime Games delivers fun and educational Indigenous games and provide insight into past and present cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Have a great week - go Queensland!!

From the P & C
The next major P&C event is a working bee to weed the school garden and the Winter Solstice on Saturday 18 June 2022. Entry to the Winter Solstice is free and we’ve lined up the School Choir and a great band, plus lots of yummy food so we’re super excited about it. Make sure you put it in your diary.
The working bee will start at 2pm and the Winter Solstice will run from 4-7pm.
If you can help with the Winter Solstice (e.g. serving soup or popcorn), there is a sign-up sheet for volunteers at this link.
The working bee to clean up the school garden will hopefully enable the school garden to reopen in term 3, once QBuild complete some repair work to the drainage system in the garden.
Uniform shop convenor & opening hours
We’re delighted announce that school parent Ludivine Mahoney will be our new uniform shop convenor.
We’ll advise of regular weekly opening hours in the next weekly newsletter. For this week, the uniform shop will be open on Thursday 9 June from 3-4pm if anyone wants to try on uniforms.
Tuckshop
We still don’t have a tuckshop convenor but, we’re going to start a weekly Sushi Friday, allowing kids to have a regular tuckshop with sushi that is delivered by a commercial provider with parents distributing the sushi at the school (so there is no menu or cooking to organise, which is the background work that the convenor normally does).
We are planning to trial it next week (Friday 17 June) then roll it out in future weeks and next term. You can place tuckshop orders on Qkr! from tomorrow (Thursday) until 5pm next Wednesday, so you have a week to order.
We’d love parent volunteers. Email the P&C President on the email below if you have a few hours next Friday to help with tuckshop.
For the sports day on the last day of term (Friday 24 June) we plan to have a sausage sizzle, which can also be ordered through Qkr!
Next term we plan to continue with regular Sushi Fridays with volunteer parents distributing the sushi at least until we find a regular convenor.
