Newsletter 14 11 May 2022
From the Principal
Hi everyone
I have written to families in year 4/5H to inform them that one of our staff members, Mrs Julia Hunt will be commencing treatment for cancer. Mrs Hunt asked me to share this information with you.
Mrs Hunt will be taking an extended leave of absence commencing Monday 23 May. Her last day of teaching 4/5 H will be Friday 13 May, with her last day at school being Friday 20 May. We are working with staffing and will advise you of her replacement as soon as we can. We wish Julia and her husband Daniel all the best for her treatment over the coming months.
NAPLAN testing commenced yesterday for students in years 3 and 5. The students have used the online portal to complete the tests this year. As with most digital learning, our students have adapted very well to this change. Our final test (Numeracy) will be tomorrow. There will be opportunity for catch up tests on Friday for children who have been absent.
Please see information further in the newsletter about changes to the P&C Executive Committee after our special AGM last week. Thank you to Chris McGrath (President), Deanne Wooden (Vice-President) and Tamara Connelly (Vice -President). A full overview is provided further in the newsletter.
The uniform shop now stocks shirts in our house colours, it was decided at the last P & C meeting that students are able to wear these shirts each Wednesday if they wish, as well as on sports days.
Please ensure we have your current contact details in our system - there has been a couple of weather cancellations sent out today.
Have a great week.

From the Head of Curriculum
As we move into the colder months students are bringing more items to school. Unfortunately this means more items are being misplaced and ending up in our lost property basket. Many items are unnamed and therefore cannot be returned to their rightful owners.
I am encouraging you to name your students items and prevent our ever increasing collection.
Please see photos of current lost property, it is requested that the items be collected by this Friday the 13 May 2022 or uncollected items may be donated to charity or placed for resale as second-hand uniforms in the uniform shop.
Many thanks
Lauren Grayson

Winter Solstice Entertainment
Seeking local creatives!
Buranda State School is holding their Winter Solstice on Saturday 18 June, and we would love some singer/songwriters or a local band/s to perform while we gather around our famous Solstice fire. The general vibe is a chilled event for parents, friends and the local community, enjoying mulled wine, and warm eats. If this sounds like your vibe, we’d love to hear from you.
The P&C is seeking expressions of interest for locals to perform and for a couple of sets we can pay you a small amount too!
Please tell us:
* Your name/s
*Where we can find you on socials so the event team can check you out…
*an abn or a way you can invoice us;
*Send these details to secretary@burandasspandc.org.au and we will be in contact soon!
