From the Principal
Dear Parents/Carers
As you may be aware, Queensland Health have updated the requirements for anyone who is deemed a close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19. See below for further information about changes to close contact requirements.
There is a P&C meeting in the library tonight at 6:15pm. I’m pleased to report that there are nominations forthcoming for the positions of President and Vice President.
Next week, students in year 3 & 5 will be involved in NAPLAN testing. This year all of the testing elements will be completed online (apart from year 3 writing). Our testing window is Tuesday 10- Thursday 11 May. Our students have completed two practice sessions and are well prepared for the tests next week.
Please contact me directly if you would like to discuss student withdrawal from any of the tests.
Have a great week

Cross Country
Last Tuesday we sent 18 students to participate in the District Cross Country. The children had a fabulous morning competing against the best runners from other schools. Two Buranda athletes have made it into the Mt Gravatt district team and will compete again. Anice came 3rd in her race and Eva came 8th to secure a position in the district team. Well done to all athletes and we wish Anice and Eva all the best in the next run.
Our year 3/4 classes are currently participating in a 5 week unit of Touch Football with coaches from Queensland Touch. The children are learning the basic rules and skills in preparation for our Budgie Cup competition and it will give the year 3 children a head start for next years competition.
Last Wednesday afternoon 75 of our students began a 4 week afterschool AFL program provided through Sporting Schools Community Grants. The children were engaged and learning new skills through drills and games.
Digital Technologies
Our Prep/1 children have been learning how to code Beebots through various activities each week. Last week they built a track and coded the new Bluebots through the track. They are having great success and learning how to write an algorithm to solve problems.
The Year 1/2 classes have been learning how to use ‘Microsoft Word’ and have produced a document containing information and an image that they have copied and pasted into their document.
Year 3/4 classes have been using data to produce an Excel spreadsheet and create a graph which is labelled correctly. Once the data is collated they are drawing conclusions and making statements about their data.
Year 5/6 classes are designing a maze and block coding their Spheros to manoeuvre through the maze. Their ideas are flowing and excitement is building as they work in teams to complete the task.

Class Groups
We've set up Parent Reps and Class "What’s App" Groups to help us connect and share information. We respect people’s privacy and it’s optional to join. We hope everyone will be part of it, so you don’t miss anything!
Feel free to ask questions and help each other on the chat. It’s a friendly space and respectful interactions are always expected.
We currently have around 50% of parents who have requested to join. It takes 1 minute to download What's App, then TEXT the parent rep below, and they will add you to the group.
