Newsletter 11 20 April 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back to term 2. A reminder that we have 3 short weeks to start this term, with public holidays (Easter Monday just gone, Monday 25 April ANZAC Day and Monday 2 May- Labour Day).
This Friday morning, students in years 3 & 5 will sit a practice NAPLAN test. This year, most elements of the NAPLAN test will be done online (not year 3 writing). The practice test on Friday gives students an opportunity to work within the online environment. Many of these students will have completed a similar practice session late last year. The NAPLAN testing suite is conducted in mid-May.
Instrumental this week will be on Thursday not Wednesday - sorry for any inconvenience. This is due to various ANZAC assembly commitments across Mr Cipollone’ s circuit.
ANZAC Day goes beyond the anniversary of the landing on Gallipoli in 1915. It is the day on which we remember all Australians who have served in war and on international operations past and present. The spirit of ANZAC, with its qualities of courage, mateship and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity. https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/anzac-day
We will have our ANZAC assembly at school on Friday 22 April at 2pm. The children are encouraged to bring a flower or some greenery from home this Friday morning, to contribute to the class wreaths which are presented during the assembly. Please take all flowers to the Prep kitchen on Friday morning before school. Parents are invited to attend the assembly (outdoors- in front of the flagpoles). There is a community gathering in Hanlon Park after school -please see details further in this newsletter.
Lest we forget

New administration of medication guidelines
There are now new guidelines regarding administration of medication for Queensland state schools to safely administer medication to students while they are at school or doing school-related activities.
All medications you provide for the school to administer to your child must be prescribed by a qualified health professional who is authorised to prescribe medications under the Health (Drugs and Poisons) Regulation 1996 (Qld) e.g. Doctor, dentist, optometrist.
Medication can only be given to a student when it is:
- accompanied by a completed Consent to administer medication form
- the medication is in its original container with an attached pharmacy label with packaging intact
Staff cannot give children non-prescribed medication such as cough medicine or paracetamol. Please do not send these medications to school.
Please see the office for further information.
