Newsletter 5 23 February 2022
From the Principal
Hi everyone,
Further to my communication on Monday, there are several COVID-19 cases in the school. Classes affected are P/1T, 1/2, year 2 and 4/5H. Please continue to keep children who are unwell at home and complete Rapid Antigen Tests. Please follow the link for further information. My sincere thanks to our families who have assisted the management of cases to date.
You may have seen that the Qld Government announced easing of some restrictions from 6pm March 4 2022. All current restrictions remain in place until 6pm Friday 4 March. Further details will be provided when the Back to School pages are updated in the coming days. In brief, eased restriction will include:
- masks no longer need to be worn in most places (including schools)
- parents and visitors can enter school grounds
- assemblies, camps and excursions are able to proceed
Teachers will send home important class based information next week. This information will include details around procedures for class homework, behaviour expectations and processes etc. Follow this link to school-wide information contained in our parent information booklet. Most of what you need to know can be found here including details for drop off/pick up, parking, early collection etc. Could I remind you that the Salisbury Street entrance should not be used for vehicle drop off and pick up!
We are expecting very wet weather for the next few days. For new families in particular, please be aware that the area around the school and surrounds is subject to flash flooding- sometimes with little notice. The car-park at Gladys Street (under the busway) is included- take caution if parking here for extended periods. Remember, if it’s flooded forget it.
Have a great week

How big is my problem?
All children face problems; they’re a part of life. It is an expectation however, that a child’s reaction size (the behaviour they show on the outside) match the size of their problem. The trouble is, sometimes a child’s feelings about a problem are much bigger than the problem itself!
As parents and educators, we can assist children in regulating their responses to problems. The Size of My Problem poster can be used to help students develop an awareness of this concept. It can also be used on the spot to help individuals figure out the size of a problem and compare it to their reaction size.
These posters are used in many classrooms throughout the school. Why not give it a go at home?
See below posters suitable for older and younger children.

Digital Technologies
Our Digital Technology classes have started and are being held each week in our Resource Centre. The children will be engaging in many activities including:
- Identifying and exploring a range of digital systems
- Investigating the functions and interactions of digital components and data transmission
- Following, modifying and designing simple algorithms
- Learning new software
- Solving simple problems and creating solutions
Our Prep-2 children will begin working with Beebots and Ozobots. Year 3/4 classes will be using Excel to represent data and undertake a sports equipment audit through the use of a spreadsheet. Year 4/5/6 classes will use Sphero, a programmable robot to block code through a maze. Our Year 6 class have started a Design Technology unit working with Photoshop to develop a Year Book.
Our Prep/1 classes were completely engaged on Friday morning when they worked in groups to program their Beebot to manoeuvre around the mat to find photos of their classmates.

Crazy Hair Day – help Darci raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation!
Darci (Year 6) is shaving her head this year to raise money towards finding a cure for blood cancer.
A Crazy Hair Day will be held on Friday, 4 March 2022 to help her raise funds.
Students can donate a gold coin and come to school with their hair in a crazy style, dressed up in either ribbons or with colourful hair spray.
If any student doesn’t want to participate in crazy hair, but would still like to donate, that’s ok too.
Collection boxes will be located in each classroom, and we’ll announce how much we raised together the week after the event.
For more information on why Darci has decided to do participate, see her website via the following link:
Darci's Fundraising Website - The World's Greatest Shave
Darci will be shaving her head at the Camp Hill Antique Centre, 9:30am Sunday 20 March 2022.

Buranda Bush Care is back for 2022!
We welcome all ages as we together re-create this beautiful little patch of riparian shrub near the school bridge on Norman Creek. Please come and visit and see if you can spot the local yellow robin in the picture…look near the big gum tree.
Caring for Country…especially this busy corner of Yuggera Country… is a wonderful way parents and carers can connect their children to nature and good mental health.
We supply everything you need: gloves, tools, happy people, local knowledge, and a way to fight climate change….your very own carbon sequestration and nature connection project!
Our next event is on Sunday March 6th from 7 – 10 am…. but come anytime!
