From the Principal

Hi everyone

I hope you and your families are well. Please find important back to school information below. Our staff are well prepared to make a positive and healthy start to the school year with our students. We look forward to seeing you later in the term and working with you throughout the school year.

Back to school arrangements for Monday 7 February - Friday 4 March

Download our Back to school plan (PDF, 771KB) for a summary of the COVID-safe measures in place for Term 1, including some specific arrangements for the period 7 February – 4 March 2022.

This plan covers Kindergarten on school sites, Prep to Year 12 and Early Childhood Development Programs.

Key features of the plan include:

  • priority access to Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) at Queensland Health testing clinics for students and staff who have COVID-19 symptoms
  • RATs available in schools for students and staff who develop symptoms while on site (NB- staff will not be administering RATs to students, parents will be provided with test material to take home and use)
  • mandatory mask wearing for staff in all schools, and all high school students
  • masks supplied and strongly encouraged for students in Years 3 to 6
  • suspension of school camps, excursions, assemblies and large gatherings
  • limiting visitors on school sites, with exceptions for parents and carers of students experiencing vulnerability, and all students attending Early Childhood Development Programs, Kindergarten, Prep or Year 1
  • limiting face-to-face staff meetings, professional development, and face-to-face parent-teacher interviews
  • COVID-19 safe practices which may include staggered drop off and pick up times and a range of drop off points to limit gatherings

First day of school- Monday 7 Feb arrangements

Parents of students from prep to year 2 (and parents of vulnerable children) may assist students into school on Monday morning. This can also include dropping off book packs. Please leave book packs at the bag racks with students bags (rather than enter the classrooms). We ask all other parents to assist us by dropping students off to school at the entry points as previously done throughout last year.

Children in prep to year 2 will be assisted to pick-up gates as per term 3 & 4 last year. Prep parents may like to come into school and collect students for the first few days. Please observe appropriate physical distancing at school gates (or on campus), you should also wear a mask.

Delivery of book packs: Friday 4 February

To avoid having large volumes of people on site on the first day of school, you will be able to deliver your child/children’s book packs this Friday between 8:30 am and 2:30 pm. Please take the book packs to students new classrooms and leave them on the bag racks outside. Please park in the Gladys St carpark behind Stones Corner Library and walk across the foot bridge, the staff car park will not be open for book pack deliveries.  Staff will place book packs into classrooms throughout the day. It would be appreciated if you could stagger deliveries across the day.

We thank you in advance for your cooperation in making the first day/week of school a success. If we all work together we can make a positive start to the school year in 2022.

Kind regards

Simon Vaseo

Slow down around school zones

Queensland state schools start back on Monday 7 Febraury, so motorists need to remember to slow down in school zones and be mindful of children in and around school areas from the start of the school term.

School zones will be back in action with 40km/hr speed limits in place around most school areas, so drivers should be vigilant to look out for signage to make sure they’re travelling the right speed and watch out for children crossing the road.

Slowing down in school zones won’t make much difference to the trip time, but it could save a child’s life.

Here’s 5 tips to keep young children safe:

·         Remember children don’t have ‘streetsmarts’ yet, so slow down for unpredictable and distracted children who will be out and about before and after school.

·         Pay close attention to children on bikes, crossing roads, getting on and off buses, and out of cars.

·         Use designated drop-off zones where available, don’t risk your child’s safety (or a fine) by stopping in no-parking areas, and exercise patience during times of congestion.

·         You can teach road safety techniques at a young age by walking or riding to school with your child until they have enough skills to understand how to be safe around roads (usually around 10 years or older).

·         Teach your child the safest route to and from school, to only cross at pedestrian crossings, crossing when the green ‘walk’ sign is showing, or at supervised school crossings when the supervisor has signalled it is safe to cross.

When school starts back all motorists should look out! There could be children about.

From Helping Hands

A big hello and a little welcome back for those who are here. Well, what a busy Vacation care period. After a brief break over Christmas, we got on with some serious fun at Vacation Care. Our excursion to Laser Force was cancelled so we all decided to have a massive water fight instead. We went out to the movies, and we had interesting incursions with Dreamtime games, Shake it up Christmas dancing, Circus incursion and AFL fever all coming out to see us. I have included some photos below.

Now, just a little housekeeping. Once your child is enrolled in the service, you do not need to enrol them again at the start of the year. I am getting lots of people enrolling who are already in the system. I have fixed all the new enrolments I can see, so if you have any trouble, please do not hesitate to contact me. If you want to make a year's worth of bookings, please let me know as it is easier for me to do lots of bookings at once and I think the parent portal makes you do it week by week.

Hope you and your family all had a fantastic break and are ready for a new year. See you all soon.

Kindest Regards

Sue Chiswell

Coordinator

Iceblocks

Iceblock day has changed this year and will be now be on Wednesday, unfortunately due to the current COVID restrictions iceblock day has been cancelled until further notice.

If you have not purchased a card you may do so through Qkr! Apart from preps, new cards can be collected by students from the tuckshop when they collect their iceblock. Preps will have their cards delivered to their classroom for distribution. Please ensure you update your child's class from last year.

Please do not throw away your Iceblock cards, last years cards can be used this year.
