Newsletter 8 December Week 10 Term 4
From the Principal
Hi everyone,
As mentioned we will have 11 classes in 2022. Staff lists were included last week. Class lists will be emailed to families tomorrow. Report cards will be sent via email this afternoon.
Friday is the final day of the school year (It’s a free dress day – remember modest sun-smart clothing).
There will be a sausage sizzle and ice-blocks provided for the students for lunch. You should pack something for the children for afternoon tea. Thanks to Maxine and Amy for organising the student lunch.
Our Swimming Carnivals were held yesterday and today. Thanks to Mrs Wain and staff organising this annual event. Congratulations to all students, you did really well. I hope you enjoyed it.
Our year 6s and their families attended the Graduation Ceremony on Monday night. It was a really great evening, acknowledging our outgoing year 6s. I’d like to thank our year 6s for being great role models for our school. I wish you all the very best in the next chapter of your schooling. Thanks to Mrs Blanchfield for organising the evening and special thanks to Amanda Shepherd for creating the video story. I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you and farewell to our year 6 families who are moving on in 2021. Thanks for your ongoing support over the years (and your volunteering at school events and the P&C). We will miss you all.
I’d like to thank our entire staff -teaching and non-teaching (teacher aides, admin staff- Rose and Tracy , business manager- Maree, cleaners- Dasha, Branka and George, groundsman-Doug and IT support-Troy ) for doing a wonderful job in 2021. It has been a very good year for our students. It has been a great team effort from all of our staff. I’d also like to thank our staff for assisting with drop off and collection of students through the year. Buranda is a great school.
Thanks to our P&C committee (Zoe Gill, Sarah Warner, Nicole Rayner, Michelle Manning, Jodie Holloway and all active members), for a great year in 2021. Again it was not a conventional year for volunteering but the executive did a great job of engaging the community and raising funds towards school programs. We really appreciate your input and effort.
Thanks to the tuckshop crew throughout 2021. If you’ve volunteered we appreciate your time and effort. In particular can I thank Vivienne, Maxine and Amy. Thanks also to Ludivine for providing ice-blocks throughout the year.
Thanks to Jodi for running our uniform shop.
Thanks to Nicole for the mangoes. Jodi for Movie Night. Zoe, Trudy and the crew for the Winter Solstice (Mr Bryant too).
Thanks to Zoe and Chris for the sports’ day BBQ and Welcome Morning Tea.
Thanks for the disco to Beth, Laura, Zoe and co.
Thanks to Laura Klein for being the dynamo she is- Day4Daniel, Better Buranda, Disco, Hanlon Park upgrade, Cleveland Street Traffic etc. Thanks very much Laura.
Thanks to the Better Buranda team for their ongoing work and community advocacy work.
Thanks to Margaret our crossing supervisor for keeping us safe.
Thanks to Sue and the Helping Hands team. They do a wonderful job caring for kids out of hours.
I know I will have forgotten many people in these thank yous. Again, thanks to you all for your cooperation and support in 2021. Teaching young children is a partnership between students, parents, staff and community. As a collective our families are engaged and supportive of the work we do with your children. Thanks very much.
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge Laruen Grayson our Acting Head of Department- Curriculum. Lauren has done a great job in supporting the teachers and myself during the semester. She’s filled some pretty big shoes (Dr Scholl- no pun intended) and I look forward to working with Lauren again in semester 1 2022.
As mentioned we wish Ms Tafra all the best during her maternity leave. We also wish all the best to Mrs Ruddy and Ms Hollands as they take leave in 2022. Thanks for everything you have done this year and in the years prior. Enjoy yourselves.
Miss Santoro's year 1/2 class have been in the resource centre since last week- as their classroom was water damaged the weekend before last. They’ve made the most of the move. Work to re-furbish their classroom will be carried out prior to the commencement of term one - carpet and flooring.
There will be remediation work done in the outdoor learning area in January and February- improving drainage from over-land flow. We look forward to reclaiming the OLA- it is a wonderful learning space.
The final P&C meeting for 2021 will be held in the library at 6:15pm tonight.
All the best for the Christmas holiday season. Enjoy the time with your families and friends. Stay safe and see you in 2022.

Dear Buranda Community,
Thank-you for welcoming me so warmly to your brilliant school. Report cards will be emailed late this afternoon please check your junk mail folder if it seems you have not received your child’s/children’s report card.
It has been a pleasure seeing our students bright smiling faces and watching their learning journeys in 2021. I look forward to ensuring the next school year at Buranda is a great experience for everyone. Planning for 2022 is well underway and I would like to thank our teachers for embracing some new ways of working and creating such a positive school environment. Yr 6 End of Primary School Party
Year 6 students: come along with all of your classmates and celebrate the end of Primary School and your last day at Buranda.
A group of us Year 6 parents, in consultation with our kids, thought it would be a nice idea for the Year 6 children to have a party straight after school on the last day. The proposal is to head over to Hanlon Park where we will have set up food, drinks and music, and a space for the kids to enjoy themselves until 5.30 or so. All Year 6 kids are invited. Parents will be present, and all parents are welcome. For catering, it would be appreciated if you could RSVP to Nerida (Milan's mother) by Wednesday 8/12/2021 on 0400 027 910. Any questions welcome.
From the Garden
Well, that is just about it for 2021, and what a year it has been. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped in any way this year.
Our wonderful new garden area has been closed for the last few weeks due to flood damage, but I’m glad to say that remediation works are now locked in and we will have it back early next year. The welcome rain has helped greatly in establishing all of the new plants put in this year. (And the older residents too!)
Our garden club has kept the front entrance and other areas of the school maintained for yet another year and we will celebrate in style with our annual garden party today. Well done gang!
Some hope came from Glasgow a few weeks back. It looks like great changes are on the way. I look forward to ever greater commitments on climate changet in the near future.
Our wider school gardens are powering in the steamy summer heat and with more rain predicted it’s a wonderful time to leave them. Lastly, I’d like to pay my respects to David Dalaithngu (Gulpilil) and Peter Cundall, two of my heros who died this week. David, of course, our most famous First Nations actor and Peter who amongst other things headed Gardening Australia for 18 years. So as Pete would say, that’s your bloomin’ lot for the year! All my best to you and yours for the holidays.
Mr Bryant
P & C Update
Thank you from the P&C
Well it turned out to be quite a bumper year for the P&C!
After not being able to support the education program last year, thankfully with our amazing events, and ongoing tuckshop and uniforms, we have funded the environmental program as well as supported the school in numerous ways. We are stoked at this achievement and thank you to all who have contributed this year.
Special shout-outs to Vivian, our Tuckshop Convenor this year, Max, in her first few weeks taking over, with Amy, our assistant as well as the work completed each week by Ludivine.
Did you know that the iceblock program is a key source of revenue for the tuckshop? About 30% of revenue! Amazing work Ludivine!
Come to our meeting this Wednesday to discuss how you would like to spend our fundraising efforts, because we don't know what you are thinking if you aren't in communication with us.
P&C Meeting this Wednesday at 6pm for 6.15pm in the Library.
P&C Qld Covid - 19 Information and Resources
P&C Qld have released information in relation to COVID - 19 as follows.
From 23 January 2022, mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations will be required for all people delivering a service at a school or an early childhood education and care setting. This includes contractors, volunteers, regulators and auditors.
All people who are delivering a service on these sites will need to have their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination by 17 December 2021 and the second completed by 23 January 2022.
In addition to mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations, from 17 December the Queensland Government will introduce restrictions for Queenslanders aged 16 and over who are not fully vaccinated (received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine). These mandates will be given effect by a Chief Health Officer public health direction, which is yet to occur.
Thanks,
Zoe
From the Uniform shop
Too much lost property - must use name labels on uniforms!!!
This year we have seen mountains of uniform items in the lost property. It has been out of control. I wonder sometimes if parents notice their child is missing lunch boxes, water bottles, jackets, etc.
Teaching your children to be responsible for their belongings by looking through the lost property when they are at school to find their missing items always helps when they can see their name on it!! And I am not talking about the barely legible name scribbled with black sharpie on the collar. I am referring to actual labels with their name, easy for everybody to read.
Bright Star Kids have amazing labels for uniforms, iron on as well as the non-iron wrap around uniform name labels. Go to www.brightstarkids.com.au and check out the labels, they are priced really well and if you add “Buranda State School P&C” as fundraiser in the checkout, they donate money to our P&C. It’s a win win!
Uniform shop holiday opening hours 2022
