Newsletter 1 December Week 9 Term 4
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers, Year 1/2S Ms Santoro- has moved to the library this morning until further notice-due storm damage in their classroom last night. Staff moved essential items from the room this morning. Repair and clean-up works have already commenced. We hope to have the class back in F Block as soon as possible. The continuous rain has caused damage to our wonderful new outdoor learning area. The garden is currently closed and the Department of Education are working with contractors to plan and carry out remedial work. This work will be carried out over the holidays. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank our staff for their work in 2021 (teachers, teacher aides, administration, cleaners, support staff and our groundsman). Thanks to all families for your continuing cooperation and support in 2021. Thank you to the P & C and volunteers for organising the Retro Disco last Friday. It was a great night for our students and families and the weather was kind to us. Yesterday we sent a couple of teams over to the Primary Philosothon at Hillbrook College. It is an event we have participated in for many years. I’m so pleased to say that our teams won both the Junior Philosothon and the Logic Cup. It is the first time we have won the Philosothon and I think the second time for the Logic Cup. Our students were spectacular. Many thanks to Ms Bryant, Mrs Alexion and Mrs Austin- it’s bigger than the Budgie Cup by a long way! Congratulations students, I am so proud of you all! If you look closely at the first photo you may recognise our former Principal Lynne Hinton AM! The year 6 Graduation evening will commence for students and families at 6:15pm for 6:30pm in the hall. Invitations have been sent out to families. Return attendance slips and return pizza should be in now. Please return by tomorrow - Thursday 2 December if you have overlooked this. Please be reminded that you will pay the vendor directly on the night for pizza (again it is optional). We expect that the Graduation Assembly will conclude by 8pm (due to larger number of graduating students this year). Final assembly is next Tuesday 7 December at 2:00pm and will take place in the hall - invitations to parents (only) of Citizenship and Academic Award Winners will be emailed shortly. Year 6 parents are invited to attend at 2:50pm on Tuesday the ringing of the bell tradition. I ask year 6 parents to wait on the grassed area in front of the bell. Swimming carnival: please see further in the newsletter for details from Mrs Wain- parents do not attend swimming carnival (there is no room). The tuckshop on the last day of school will be organising a lunch for each child. Students do not need to bring lunch. Maxine and Amy will prepare a sausage sizzle, ice blocks and fruit for all students. The school will provide this lunch to the students on break up day. Mrs Patton has sent out information about mini end of year concerts. Our class overview for next year are as follows. Mrs Ruddy will take leave next year. Ms Tafra will be on maternity leave for 2022. We welcome a new member of staff Ms Tara Border (from East Brisbane State School) to teach Prep/ 1. Mrs Zoe Curry (nee McDiarmid) will return to Buranda in 2022 after working at Wellers Hill SS in 2021. Ms Karen Hollands will also take leave in 2022. Ms Hollands will be replaced by Mrs Wain. Mrs Wain will expand the digital technologies program for our students through the resource centre position in 2022. Ms Grayson will remain as Acting Head of Department (Curriculum) in semester 1. |

From the Garden
Well the end of the year is almost upon us and I’m busy tidying up. As part of this, we are giving away a lot of garden bits and pieces. If you are interested in any good quality plastic pots, native tubes, nets to keep away possums or even a worm farm, we have a selection to give away. We will leave the big gates at the end of Martin St unlocked this Thursday 2 and Friday 3 December between 9 am - 2pm, please help yourself to whatever you would like (except for the compost bin!).
Apart from all of that, the students have been busy planting the last of the native plants we got from the council earlier this year. In perfect planting weather too. We are also harvesting the last of the bumper crop of cherry tomatoes, silver beet and beetroot.
With any luck we will get some more of the welcome rain predicted for this week. Fingers crossed!
Mr. Bryant
Yr 6 End of Primary School Party
Year 6 students: come along with all of your classmates and celebrate the end of Primary School and your last day at Buranda.
A group of us Year 6 parents, in consultation with our kids, thought it would be a nice idea for the Grade 6 children to have a party straight after school on the last day. The proposal is to head over to Hanlon Park where we will have set up food, drinks and music, and a space for the kids to enjoy themselves until 5.30 or so. All Year 6 kids are invited. Parents will be present, and all parents are welcome. For catering, it would be appreciated if you could RSVP to Nerida (Milan's mother) by Wednesday 8/12/2021 on 0400 027 910. Any questions welcome.

From Helping Hands
Now, I normally don't brag, but I am just so proud of my team as we win our second "Families rate our service World Class". Some extra bragging rights (thanks Finn and Tristan for teaching me about bragging rights), this is our third award in a row, making me an exceptionally proud coordinator. A huge thanks to all our families for making our job special. An enormous thank you to all the children who do seem to enjoy coming. But most of all, a massive thank you to all my staff who truly engage with and care about our children.
So here comes the normal hurry up and get your bookings for Vacation care in as it is extremely hard to staff if we don't know correct numbers. Bookings cannot be made after the last day of school which is Friday 10 December. So, to make sure you have the bookings you need, please book on your parent portal. The internet has been terminally slow, so even more patience than usual is needed and if all else fails, please give me a call so I can do your bookings for you.
Thanks Sue and the team.
