Newsletter 15 September Week 10 Term 3
From the Principal
Hi everyone
Term 3 is close to completion- it has been a very busy end to the term.
On Thursday and Friday our year 4s are attending their school camp at Jacobs Well Environmental Education Centre. This is a wonderful experience for our students. Ms O’Dempsey, Ms Walters, Ms Matheson and I will attend the camp with students. The bus is due to return to school at approximately 3pm, if it is late we will send you a text notifying you what time it will arrive. Please arrange with your children where you will meet them Friday afternoon.
Last Friday selected students attended the Budgie Cup Soccer at Coorparoo Secondary College. It was a successful day for all of our student's. I’m really pleased with our students efforts and sportsmanship on the day. Our junior and senior maroon teams made major finals (which is a great achievement- soccer is the most hotly contested Budgie sport). Juniors drew (0-0) and were runners up on count back and our senior team lost (3-0). Congratulations students and many thanks to all staff who attended/supported the day. Congratulations to our best and fairest winners: Sebastian B, George M, Tyson S & Joe C.
Please be reminded to check that we have your current contact details. In the event of an emergency, accident or illness of your child, we may need to contact you to come to the school. If you have changed phone numbers or emails recently, please check in with the admin team.
There was some vandalism in the school grounds over the weekend. Thankfully damage was only minor but it took considerable time for our cleaners and groundsman to tidy up the mess prior to school commencing on Monday morning. Please report any suspicious activity on school grounds (out of hours) to Policelink 131444.
The school term ends this Friday. I wish you all a peaceful and enjoyable time with your family whether you are at home together or away. I will be hiking with my family again during the first week in Central Queensland- it will be nice to recharge the batteries. A reminder that school returns on Tuesday October 5.
Take care

Swimming - Term 4
Swimming will begin in week 2 for all year levels. Children will need to bring their swimming togs, towel, bathing cap and optional goggles. All gear should be named and stored in a waterproof bag. Please note that swimming is a part of the curriculum and therefore all children must participate. A brief note is required if children are unable to swim due to illness. Swimming lessons will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday during Physical Education lessons and most classes will have a second swim with the classroom teacher each week. (Teachers will advise the children of their 2nd swim time).
Prep children will have an introduction lesson on Tuesday and Wednesday in week 1 (no togs required) and will begin swimming in week 2.

Prep/1 BugsEd Incursion
In Week 8 the Prep/1 classes were lucky enough to have a visit from BugsEd in the school hall as part of our Science unit this term. We enjoyed learning about how insects sense the world around them and we had the exciting chance to see lots of different insects, both preserved non-living insects and several living insects as well. For those of us who were brave enough we even got up close and personal with a friendly stick insect who enjoyed crawling onto our hands and waving goodbye when they had met us all!
Instrumental Music
Last week, four of our students had the tremendous opportunity to participate in the Southside Senior Music Workshop, held at Sleeman's Sport Centre. Students spent three days rehearsing repertoire that would be performed on the last afternoon of the camp. This is ideal for our Buranda students as it gives them the opportunity to play in a much larger ensemble and play repertoire not otherwise known. From all accounts, all students who participated in the music week received a lot of playing experience and had a lot of fun.
