Newsletter 1 September Week 8 Term 3
Message from the Principal
Hi everyone
I write from Maroon Outdoor Education Centre - where the weather is wonderful and 79 year 5/6s have challenged themselves and worked with each other, to enjoy everything on offer at this wonderful Department of Education facility. I have literally just unharnessed myself from the Giant Swing- the year 5s managed to trick me into doing it. I am not good with heights but they got me to the top and I screamed like a cockatoo. It was very thrilling indeed.
We will return to school Thursday afternoon at approximately 3pm.
Our students have been terrific and given everything a good go. I am very proud of them. A special thanks to our staff, Miss Coutts, Mrs Hunt, Mrs Blanchfield and Mrs Alexion and to our parent assistants, Khanoum and Kevin. I greatly appreciate your commitment to the year 5/6 camp- and you being away from home for the week.
Please remember Friday is a Student Free Day.
Buranda State School is growing
This week, contractors have been appointed to build the new future for our school with the appointment of Evans Built to undertake the redevelopment and creation of the new prep precinct on the Martin Street school frontage as well as a new connecting lift and walkway to our existing lower campus.
Within the next few weeks, demolition and refurbishment of the buildings on Martin Street adjacent to the entry to the school will commence. There will be a lot of activity as site fences go up, demolition is undertaken, and building works occur. This will mean some changes to parking and increased construction traffic over the next six months in Martin Street.
This area will be converted into our new prep precinct in time for our new entrants at the start of 2022. There will be four prep classrooms, as well as a new playground, offices and amenities. There will also be a new lift built from this level down to the existing school in the corner between B and C Blocks, which will commence construction at the start of the December holidays.
Your patience over this exciting period for our school is appreciated.
There is a P&C meeting (online) tonight @ 6:15pm. I will dial in from up here.
Have a great week. Carn the Lions.

From the Garden

Another great week in our school garden. Of special note, was the kick off of our school composting program, ‘Compost Kings and Queens.’ It is up and running well, started by our great little Year 1s and 2s, and all grades will get a chance to participate in this initiative as the weeks roll on by.
Spring has certainly sprung, with all classes helping with the mulching and planting of the vegetable beds. Tomato, basil, silverbeet and beetroot are now all in. The chickens are laying well and the bees are busy. All the other gardens are looking good.
In the next few weeks, I’ll be clearing out a lot of good, old garden bits and pieces and giving them away free. Included will be some of the old netting and plastic hoops that keep the possums and chooks away from our vegetables. If you are keen, please let me know.
Mr. Bryant
