Newsletter 11 August Week 5 Term 3
Message from the Principal
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your continued support through the current arrangements in place for back to school.
There have been numerous postponements and cancellations. We appreciate your patience through this.
With regard to extra-curricular activity and sport:
- All sport played between schools (Inter School Sport) is currently suspended indefinitely (this includes Budgie Cup Carnivals).
- All District and Regional sport trials are currently suspended indefinitely.
- Queensland School Sport have cancelled the State Track and Field Championships for 2021. A flow on affect of this decision is that both the Met East regional trials as well as the Mt Gravatt District trials will also be cancelled for 2021.
- Large group activities (assembly/performances etc), contact activity, instrumental music are currently suspended
- External visitors are not currently permitted in schools
We will be updated around school camps scheduled this term in the coming week. At this stage we will continue to plan for our camps.
Please continue to be patient at collection points after school. The Gladys Street Bridge has been busy. I’d ask you not to wait for your child/children on the bridge. Please wait at the Stones Corner side of the bridge. Children in prep/year 1 will be supported by staff across the bridge. There is limited waiting space on the grass along the school fence on the school side of the bridge. Please also be reminded that you should distance yourself from others and wear a mask in public places.
If you are choosing to keep your child at home as a precautionary measure, then you need to access the learning@home materials as our school is open.
Amy McMahon, Greens MP for South Brisbane has offered her support during this challenging time, please contact her on 3724 9100 or south.brisbane@parliament.qld.gov.au if you require any assistance regarding COVID-19 disaster payments.
Kind Regards
Simon Vaseo - Principal
Singfest 2021 cancelled
It is with great sadness that I am contacting you as we have had to make the decision to cancel Singfest 2021. The Director General has been very clear about no choirs rehearsing for the next two weeks, which obviously restricts rehearsals before the event, and with no inter-school excusions alllowed, this means Singfest will no longer be going ahead this year.
There will be no Thursday choir rehearsals in the foreseeable future. We will provide another update when choirs are allowed to rehearse again.

From the Garden
I write from exile today, as I’m presently at home in quarantine. What times! They say every grey cloud has a silver lining though and true enough, I’ve been enjoying spending some extended time in our garden with my wonderful little family.
When I’m not gardening, every chance I get, I turn on ABC’s Radio National. Jam packed with great content in every sphere. Environmental Education is science education, so I’d like to recommend two fantastic weekly radio programs to you all from this, our national broadcaster. These two are solely nature programs, the first is ‘Off Track’ and the second ‘Nature Track’. Off Track is filled with astounding nature stories and Nature Track purely the sounds of nature. Both perfect to soothe the soul.
I look forward to seeing everyone next week.

P & C Update
At our last P&C meeting, we received a proposal from Ms Wain to fund a volleyball court - with the Olympics vibe in the air, we have approved $1000 to help fund this resource for the school.
We have also recently funded a whole lot of wobble stools as therapeutic aids for classrooms - thank you to the teaching staff who applied for P&C Grants this year!
