Newsletter 16 22 October 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s hard to believe we’re heading into the final stretch of Term 4 already!
Firstly, a quick note to let you know that the planned Trivia Night has been cancelled. We appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm and support, and we’ll look forward to future community events in 2026.
As we start to prepare for next year, if your family will be moving on from Buranda State School and you haven’t yet informed the office, please do so as soon as possible. This helps us greatly with class planning and staffing for 2026.
I’m pleased to confirm that we will again have 10 classes in 2026.
Day for Daniel is on Friday 31 October, please see below for further information.
We’re also looking forward to our End of Year Concert, which will take place on Thursday afternoon in Week 10. This event will be a fun celebration of our students’ learning in Music throughout the year—with a few surprises and plenty of enjoyment for everyone! We’ll share further details in the coming fortnight.
At this week’s assembly, I shared an update on the Martin Street building project. The construction is progressing really well, and the roof is due to go on next week. It’s wonderful to see such visible progress on what will be a fantastic new space for our school.
Finally, please take a moment to check the reminders and updates from our P&C further on in this newsletter.
Kind regards
Simon Vaseo - Principal

Parking in accordance with all road rules and signage is important to keep our children and other road users safe. Unfortunately, Brisbane City Council has received an increase in the number of reports of illegal parking around our school. As a result, our school has been added to Council’s Safer Schools Program this term.
What does this mean?
Brisbane City Council’s Parking Compliance Officers will be actively patrolling the streets surrounding our school over the coming term to encourage safer parking behaviours. These patrols will be conducted on foot and in highly visible Community Safety and Regulation vehicles that can identify alleged offences using Automatic Number Plate Recognition and GPS software. Please be kind – they have a job to do.

Year 6 Strengths Project
This week our Year 6 students have begun their Strengths Project, a new tradition that celebrates who they are and what they bring to our school community. After Monday’s assembly, each student received their paper tile and is now thinking about their unique strengths — the qualities and abilities that make them who they are.
Over the next few weeks, students will design their tile to include their name and a logo, diagram, or image that represents their chosen strength. These designs will then be painted onto ceramic tiles, fired, and displayed alongside the 2024 collection on the Besser block wall near The Deck area.
If you haven’t seen last year’s tiles yet, take a moment to stop by — they look fantastic and add a wonderful splash of colour and positivity to our school environment.
