Newsletter 5 23 April 2025
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we settle into the term, I’d like to share a few important updates and reminders for the week ahead:
ANZAC Assembly – Thursday at 10:00am
Our ANZAC Day Assembly will take place this Thursday at 10:00am. Families are able to support this important occasion by encouraging students to bring a flower or small piece of greenery from home, if possible. These will be used to create wreaths for the ceremony and can be delivered to the library before school. A big thank you to our wonderful Teacher Aides who will be helping assemble the wreaths. Please remember that Friday is a Public Holiday for ANZAC Day- (no school). Lest we forget.
Cluster Moderation – Next Tuesday at Dutton Park SS
Next Tuesday, our teaching team will take part in Cluster Moderation at Dutton Park State School. This collaborative process ensures consistency in assessment across schools and plays an important role in supporting student achievement.
Martin Street Development
Exciting times are ahead with the Martin Street building project making significant progress. We expect construction to move above ground level in the coming weeks, marking a visible milestone in the development.
Oval Conditions
Due to recent rainfall and the holiday period, our school oval remains quite wet. We are hoping to reopen more areas by tomorrow, depending on weather conditions. In the meantime, students are reminded to play only in marked safe zones. The junior and senior playgrounds, along with the sandpit, are currently open.
Welcome to New and Returning Staff
We are delighted to welcome Emma Downer, who will be replacing Tara Border for the remainder of the year. Many thanks to Helen Bright for the generous support she has offered Emma during the transition.
We also welcome back our Business Manager Doreen Holland, who has returned this week on reduced hours after some time away. It’s great to have her back with us.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support.
Kind regards
Simon Vaseo - Principal

P&C News
Welcome to the new P&C executive for 2025!
The P&C executive elected at the P&C AGM on 12 March 2025 comprises:
President – Adam Purdy
Vice President – not filled
Treasurer – Ricky Brooks
Vice Treasurer – Kate Slessor
Secretary – Hannah Gullo
Also, a huge thanks to Jodie Holloway, Ludivine Mahoney and Cass Somers for their amazing contributions to the committee, uniform shop/iceblocks and tuckshop.
If anyone is interested in the Vice President position, this is still vacant, and it would be great for someone to volunteer. Many hands make light work!
Thanks to retiring P&C Executive
Our heartfelt thanks to Chris McGrath, who served as P&C President for the past 3 years, Kate Slessor, who served as Treasurer for the past 2 years, and Susan Boniface, who served as the Vice President for the past year. Kate has agreed to stay on as Vice Treasurer this year which is wonderful! They all made very substantial contributions to the P&C and the school community. Thank you.
What’s on the plan for 2025
This year, the P&C will continue to focus on our main priorities such as Uniform Shop, Tuckshop, Fund raising/school community activities and the Environmental Program to name a few. However, in addition to these, we are also going to be looking at some projects aimed at improving the use and functionality of some of the outdoor spaces at school, introduction of new free play resources and some much-needed upgrades to the tuckshop kitchen.
Tuckshop
Tuckshop will be back next week on Friday 2 May. Keep an eye out for the menu on Qkr! Orders close on Qkr! at 8pm on the Wednesday before.
Uniform Shop & Iceblocks
The uniform shop has zip-up jumpers and tracksuit pants in stock for the colder months. We also have second hand leggings, tights and jumpers available at the shop (no deliveries). Try and purchase in person, Wednesday mornings (8am-9:30am) and Thursday afternoons (2:30pm-3pm), or order through QKR! for class deliveries.
The uniform will be exceptionally closed on Wednesday 30th April and will open instead on Thursday 1st May 8am-9:30am, then as usual in the afternoon.
Iceblocks cards (10 iceblocks per card) need to be purchased through QKR! before 3pm Tuesdays for the card to be delivered for Wednesday iceblocks day.
Pease contact Ludivine uniforms@burandasspandc.org.au for any queries about uniforms or iceblocks.
Garden Working Bees
Thank you to the parents who joined us at the recent garden working bee on 23 February. We will be looking to do similar working bees every couple of months as we need everyone’s helping to make it as beautiful and functional for the children as it could be. Stay tuned.
