Newsletter 26 May - Week 6 Term 2
Message from the Principal
National Sorry Day
Today is National Sorry Day, with National Reconciliation Week commencing tomorrow until June 3. National Sorry Day, or the National Day of Healing, is an annual event that has been held in Australia on 26 May since 1998, to remember and commemorate the mistreatment of the country's Indigenous peoples, as part of an ongoing process of reconciliation between the Indigenous peoples and the settler population.

Teaching staff attended a professional development session yesterday with Education Academic Erica McWilliam. We are working towards updating our School Approach to Pedagogy. Key ideas in her work include knowing what to do, when you don't know what to do and what informs your opinion, really matters.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in the last week of Term 2 21 – 25 June. Our booking system is now online. Bookings will open at 9am on Monday 31 May and teachers will send parents a link and instructions on how to book.
Sick Children
Children who are showing any signs of cold or flu should not be at school. Students who are unwell should stay home until they show no signs or symptons and if necessary, have a COVID-19 test.

From the P&C
Dear Buranda State School Community,
This year, Buranda State School P&C are hosting a Biggest Morning Tea to help Cancer Council raise vital funds for people impacted by cancer – and we'd love for you to join us for this great cause!
When: Thursday 27 May at 8am - 9am
Where: Buranda State School Hall
Entry: Gold coin donation.
Details: Please bring a plate to share, meet others and be part of the morning!
**There is no parking in the staff car park**
We can’t wait to get together and share some tasty treats, all while helping create a cancer free future.
Please note: Children will need to be supervised as part of this event. Your children are to remain in the hall until 8.30am at which time they can "walk and talk" as per their usual routine.
If you can’t make it, you can still help us make a difference by donating to our fund raising page here https://www.biggestmorningtea.com.au/s/29646/34960

From the Tuckshop
Hello parents,
New menus on Qkr
You will find menus for the next 3 weeks on Qkr.
This week we have Beef Bolognese and vegetarian pasta. For the delight of parents, even the beef option comes with loads of hidden veggies (don't tell the kids).
* Vegan and gluten free options available.
The baked item of the day is Blueberry Muffin, an all-time favourite.
2nd break options
Our 2nd break menu is also a big hit and kids love having their snacks delivered to the classroom. As we start recognising preferences, you'll see that this week some options have changed: we mereged fruits and veggies and added cereal bars to our menu.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Can you help?
The tuckshop can only keep operating if we have enough volunteers to help out each week. If you can help in the tuckshop occasionally on Thursdays or Fridays, click the link below:
Please sign up using our online roster: https://signup.com/go/rqwpybE , or alternatively contact Vivian on tuckshop@burandasspandc.org.au.
Ice blocks
Ice blocks are every Thursday and can be ordered through the Qkr! app. New cards are to be collected from the tuckshop unless the children are in Prep - teachers will hold their cards. New cards must be purchased by 5pm on Tuesday. Please contact Ludivine on ludivinedr@hotmail.com if you have any issues.
