From the Principal
Hi everyone
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable winter break. It’s wonderful to see our school buzzing with energy and excitement as we dive into a new term.
Over the break, we completed several significant projects around the school. These improvements aim to enhance our learning environment and ensure that our facilities remain top-notch. Thank you to everyone who contributed to these efforts.
A special congratulations to our Prep and Prep 1 students on their successful move from C Block to the lower level of D Block. This transition marks a new chapter in their educational journey, and we couldn’t be prouder of how smoothly it went. A big thank you to our dedicated staff for their hard work in making this move seamless. Additionally, we extend our gratitude to the parents for their cooperation and support during this transition.

From Inclusion
Inclusion is a Shared Responsibility
Inclusion is education traditionally means making sure all students with a difference are integrated into education to the greatest possible extent. Today inclusion in schools means so much more than this. Creating a school that is truly inclusive starts in each classroom, however it must also be wider in scope. Inclusion requires specific strategies that are shared and encouraged by the school, but just as importantly, shared and encouraged by the whole school community. An inclusive environment is where all members of a community take a shared responsibility for inclusion.
The most powerful influence on learning is a student’s home life, and as we navigate through another school term, it's essential to reflect on the profound impact that home environments can have on our children's learning and development. As educators, we strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment within our school community. We aim to provide not only academic education but also emotional support and guidance to help each child reach their full potential. However, it must be recognised that our efforts are most effective when they are complemented by a strong partnership with parent and guardians. Where children lack consistent role models and parental guidance, they often miss out on the invaluable lessons that come from parents who actively engage with them—explaining the world, answering questions, and teaching them the difference between right and wrong. These old-fashioned values of responsibility, self-discipline, and a strong work ethic are crucial for their development into well-rounded individuals.
When children misbehave or struggle academically, it's not solely the school's responsibility. Every child comes to school with a foundation shaped by their upbringing and home environment. Teachers are tasked with educating and fostering growth, but they require the support and partnership of parents to truly succeed.
We understand that balancing work and family life can be challenging. However, investing time and effort in our children's upbringing is a responsibility that yields immeasurable rewards. By prioritising our roles as parents—setting boundaries, providing guidance, and fostering a positive learning environment at home—we empower our children to succeed both in school and in life.
In the coming series of newsletter articles, we will look at Buranda as a school community. We will look at the wonderful diversity we have in our small inner-city school and will celebrate the unique differences amongst our students and community members. In the process we may also debunk a couple of myths regarding difference and the appropriate ways of dealing with difference along the way.
Tune in week 3
